PAUL, William Zaferis passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on February 16, 2004. Predeceased by his brother Pavlo Paul and sister Lila Henrickson, he will be remembered by his brother Nick(Ella); sister Mary Falkner; nieces and nephews, Colleen (Bill) Brownlee, Doreen (Keith) Newell, Diane Falkner, Bruce (Noni) Paul, and Marilyn (Phil) Lambert.
A native Victorian, Bill was born on May 11, 1913 and grew up on Niagara Street in James Bay. During his youth, he was an avid sports fan enjoying soccer , rugby and hockey and supported many teams of Victoria.
Bill was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He served his country and was wounded in Casino, Italy during the Second World War. After arriving home, Bill worked with father and then took over the well known Bill’s Spot on Johnson Street. Bill retired in 1991 giving him more time to spend driving his beloved Buick Wildcat which he purchased new in 1967. He also continued to be active at local sporting venues.
In the last two years Bill lived at his “Hotel,” Sunrise Assisted Living of Victoria.
A celebration of his life will be held at the GRAHAM AND TORREY McCALL FAMILY CENTRE, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Special thanks to Ted Alexis, Staff of Sunrise Assisted Living, the Staff of 3 West RJH, Dr. Huggett and his assistants Twila and Tish.
