Bill passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to Helen and ‘Red’ Howard on May 11, 1953; Bill grew up in Calgary and attended university in Edmonton where me made many life-long friends. Bill lived briefly in Ottawa, where he met his future wife, Jennifer, and they chose to move to Victoria to begin their life together.

Bill enjoyed a long career with the BC Forest Service, loved fly-fishing with his great friends and became an accomplished woodworker after he retired. Most of all, he cherished Jennifer, his beloved daughters, Allison and Lindsay, and their life together. In recent years he was thrilled to become “Grandad”.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Bill’s name might consider the BC Cancer Agency (Victoria) or the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He was grateful for their compassion and care. A private Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date.

Bill was an extraordinarily considerate man and was much loved. He will be sorely missed but his memory will be treasured always.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Words are not enough to express my grief at losing such a gifted brother. From our childhood in Calgary to shared experiences as students at the U of Alberta in Edmonton, to cherished times with his own family in Victoria … I don’t know where to begin (or end) this heartfelt message of condolence to Jennifer, Allison and Lindsay. May you find a heavenly single malt and always have a taut line, until we meet again dear brother. Doug and I will never forget your many kindnesses as we embarked on retirement in Victoria in 2019.

To Jennifer and her family, I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s death. Although we’ve lost track of each other as sometimes happens over the years, I have never forgotten either of you, but especially Bill’s easy-going personality, dry sense of humour and quiet laugh. We have lost a good man too soon.
