CAMPBELL, William Colville passed away peacefully on September 2, 2003 at Victoria General Hospital, with his loving caregiver, Luisa at his bedside. Bill was born in Victoria on December 7, 1910. He grew up with his 3 brothers and 4 sisters at Beaver Lake. He attended Beaver Lake School and Victoria High School. His first full time job was at the Bapco Paint Factory which was situated at the present site of the Laurel Point Inn. Before his 16th birthday, he signed on with CPR Steamships and made several trips to Alaska. Although he loved the sea, he missed his family and friends.
He started working as an apprentice carpenter and quickly worked his way through the ranks until he was General Superintendent and shareholder of the former Luney Bros. and Hamilton in the late 50’s. In 1964 he founded W. Campbell Ltd. and remained President of this company until 1978 when he retired and Campbell Construction Ltd. was formed. As an active member of the community he served 11 years on Saanich Council and was a long standing member of C.C.Y.C. where he enjoyed cruising with “Island Lady” and his friends for many, many years. He was also a member of the Saanich Historical Society and New Horizons Seniors’ Society for many years. In his younger days on the dance floor he could make Arthur Murray envious.
