Wendy Ruth Bartlett passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023 with family at her side. Wendy was born in Victoria on April 5, 1954. She was pre-deceased by her father, James and mother, Carol and is survived by her brother, Kim (Christine), sisters, Jean and Robyn (Mark), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Wendy grew up in Victoria West and developed an early love for animals that stayed with her throughout her life. After graduation from Esquimalt High, she pursued a career with the provincial government working for the Motor Vehicle Branch. In 1984 she moved to Cranbrook, BC working for the Government Agent’s Office. She proudly served the people of the East Kootenays until her retirement in 2009.

Wendy developed many good friendships, and particularly enjoyed her trips with the ‘“Kootenay Cruisers” to the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe. One of her main joys in retirement was house-sitting for friends who had animals she could look after. However, due to increasing mobility problems she moved back to Victoria in September 2020 to be closer to family.

The family is eternally grateful for all the support she received from the ALS Society, Island Health, as well as family and friends who brought her many moments of joy. There will be no funeral as per her wishes. Those who wish can make a donation in her name to the SPCA.

My heartfelt sympathy to all of Wendy’s family and friends. I have many fond memories of Wendy over the fifty plus years we were friends, especially during high school and Selkirk Street days at the Bartlett’s and Aunt Effie’s. Wendy was a special person and I’ll miss her. Thank you to everyone who supported her during her final years in Victoria. Gone but not forgotten. xo

My sincere condolences to Wendy’s family, We grew up in the same neighbourhood, playing outside in the summer til the 9 o’clock whistle blew, climbed the fence from Bartlett yard into Aunty Kay’s and up to our house on Northcott. Wendy was more my sis, Heather’s friend and I was Jean’s. So many wonderful memories of the neighbourhood.
PS. Jean, I would love to hear from you. Lynne (Sutton) Holder..
