It is with profound sadness that we announce that our beloved mother, sister, friend and grandmother, Tina Mon Tan Kwan, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on March 7, 2016.
Tina was born on December 25, 1943 in Canton, China. She moved with her family at the age of 12 to Taipei, Taiwan. This is where she met her future husband, David Chor Sek Kwan, at the tender age of 19. They fell in love and were married in April 1963. Soon after, they immigrated to Victoria, BC where they started a family and were fortunate to have enjoyed great prosperity and happiness over the next 53 years. They loved to travel often and grew old together.
Tina is remembered for her love of life and her love of people. She loved to garden, dance, play maj jong and travel. In their long years of retirement, Tina and David cruised the world many times over. Tina was always generous and kind and known by all for her upbeat and joyful personality. Those of us who knew her, knew she lived by the phrase “the more the merrier”. Family was most important to her and some of her most treasured times were the cruises the whole extended family took together.
Tina had a large loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, David Chor Sek Kwan (2010) and her father, Nelson Lee (2016). She is survived by her loving daughters, Angela (Brian) and Tanya (Danny); grandchildren, Julianna, Matthew and Chanelle; mother, Dottie and siblings, Carol (Joseph), Benson (Cathy) and Ava (Claudio).
The family would like to especially thank Nurse Carol from the palliative response team, Dr. Saltman, Dr. Cook, Nurse Crystal and all the caring doctors, nurses and support staff at the Victoria Hospice, the Royal Oak Health Unit and the Vancouver Island Cancer Clinic.
A Service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, with interment to follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Vancouver Island Centre of the BC Cancer Foundation (www.bccancer.bc.ca/RS/VancouverIslandCentre/donating.htm) or to the Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation (www.victoriahospice.org/contact).
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I esp remember yr mom teaching me how to count when I was five, picking me up fr kingarten when my parents were at work, taking us to church every sunday and of course..followed a Mc Donalds burger! Take solace that your mom is free of pain and now with your dad dancing again in heaven & looking down at yr family with love & continued guidance.
