Thyra Mary Aagot Munn died very peacefully and gently with her family present on August 16th 2005 in her room at Mount Edwards Court, Victoria, B.C., in her 93rd year.
She was born, and grew up in, Vancouver, where in 1943 she married Eric Munn, then one of the clergy at her church of St. James’. In their deeply intimate marriage she served alongside him as his constant companion in some of the most socially and geographically rugged parts of British Columbia. They ministered at Christ Church Fernie, at St. Barnabas’ Victoria, at as many as a dozen congregations in and around Lytton, and she accompanied him and herself drove immense distances in his ten years as the bishop of the Diocese of Caledonia (the northern half of B.C.) until he died in office in 1968. They had one son, Harold, married to Claire, and two grandchildren, Eric and Mark.
Her family are very grateful to the staff of the Court for the wonderful care they have provided to Thyra over the past five and a half years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Court for wheelchairs, or to Thyra’s life-long concern, the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, through St. John’s church.
Her funeral service with Eucharist will be held at 2.00 p.m. Friday August 19th at St. John the Divine, 1611 Quadra Street, Victoria, B.C. Her son will preside, and the preacher will be the Most Rev. Douglas Hambidge. A reception will follow to which all are invited. Her ashes will be interred next to those of her husband in the cemetery at Lytton, B.C.
