It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sime Barjasic, who departed this world August 5, 2024, in Victoria, BC. Born in Policnik, Croatia, December 20, 1951, Sime immigrated to Canada in 1970, bringing with him a rich heritage and an incredible spirit.
Sime was a talented soccer player, known for his exceptional skills and sportsmanship. He played for the Victoria Croatia team, leading them to numerous championships and bringing pride and joy to the club and its supporters.
A hardworking individual, Sime’s legacy can be seen in the many masonry works that adorn Vancouver Island. His craftsmanship and dedication to his trade have left a mark on the community.
Sime was a proud Croatian, and his love for his heritage was evident in his unwavering support and dedication to the Croatian community. He was an active volunteer at St. Leopold Mandic Church and contributed significantly to the Croatian Cultural Community. Sime’s presence was a staple at community events, where he could often be found barbequing or engaging in a friendly game of bocce.
Sime is survived by his former wife Violetta, his daughter Natalia, and his cherished grandchildren Hailee and Nikolas. He was one of five children and is also survived by his dear siblings, Kata, Ivan (Bozena), Ana and his niece Suzana and nephews Tomislav (Miria), Ante, Dragutin, and Adrian who will miss him profoundly. He was predeceased by his brother Marinko (Marija) and brother-in-law Drago.
Sime Barjasic’s contributions to his community, both on and off the field, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire future generations.
There will be a funeral mass held at St. Leopold Mandic Catholic Croatian parish in Victoria, BC on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the St. Leopold Mandic Catholic Croatian Parish in Victoria.
