Bunny passed peacefully at her residence on June 21st.  A world traveller, cordon bleu cook, lace maker, fierce tennis player, talented artist, avid volunteer and gracious and loving mother.  She is survived by her children Roy (Michele) Nurse, Erica (Greg) Brannon, Sheila (David) Long, Nichola (David) Wade, along with 9 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild.  She was predeceased by her husband Eric (1994), with whom she is, we are sure, delighted to be reunited with in heaven.

Born in Bulsa India, in 1928, Bunny grew up in the south of England, joined the WRNS toward the end of WWII, then moved to BOAC (now British Airways) after the war and further served as a purser on P&O ships between the UK, Hong Kong and India.

Swept off her feet by a dashing Canadian Naval Officer on exchange to the UK, she emigrated to Canada in 1956.  A consummate homemaker, she took Eric’s numerous postings in stride, creating warm and loving places wherever they landed up.  Upon retirement from the Navy, several international positions opened up for Eric so she made Botswana, Ghana, the UK, and ultimately Victoria BC, her new homes.

Her remains will be scattered at sea along with those of Eric’s in a private ceremony.  Flowers are gratefully declined but a donation to the Salvation Army in her name would be greatly appreciated for those so inclined. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Sluggett House for their excellent care of Mum.

Dear Roy, Erica, Sheila and Nichola. Read your Mum’s obituary and am sorry to hear you have lost your Mother. She led an interesting life. I will always remember watching you children running in and out of Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house when you visited the Nurses and having the occasional visit with you. I hope the wonderful memories of your time with your Mother will help you through this difficult period in your lives. It’s hard to lose a parent and how fortunate you were to have her as long as you did.
    With deepest sympathy,
    Barb Waldner

The Nurse family was an important part of of my years growing up. I have so many memories and stories about our times together. As a young girl, I thought Bunny was the most interesting and glamorous woman and when she looked after my brother, sister and I would spoil us with her famous cookery skills. I was sorry to hear of her passing and hope that her children will have an opportunity to reminisce together about the life of both Bunny and Eric.
