Samuel was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 21, 1905. He passed away in Victoria, BC on June 10, 2009 in his 104th year. Sam was predeceased by his wife, Annie Sheridan Little in 1985 and his son, Terence Ritchie Little in 2005. He apprenticed as a cook in Edinburgh and worked in hotels in Montreal and Ottawa. He worked in the Department of National Defence for the Government of Canada in Ottawa and retired after twenty-five years of service in 1970 moving to Victoria soon after. For over seventy years he played the violin and clarinet in bands and orchestras from Quebec to Victoria, including the Governor General’s Foot Band, the Ottawa Civic Orchestra and the Oak Bay Senior’s Orchestra. He was a life member of the Federation of Musicians and a member of the Masonic Order. He is survived by several nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom and the United States and in Canada by Margaret Parker of Victoria, BC, Brian Little of Manotick, ON and Georgette Dupré of Montreal, PQ. The family thanks the support staff at Oak Bay Lodge and is grateful for the long term friendship of Régine Berube.
