Roy B. Laschuk, 90, of North Saanich, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was a kind and intelligent man of great integrity and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. He is survived not only by his wife Tairroyn, to whom he was married for 58 wonderful years, but also his three children Tonia (Gerry) Hauck, Stephen (Tracey) and Graham (Cindy), his four grandchildren Mirela (Mason), Preston, Lauren and Emily, and his great-grandson Meric. His family will miss his kind and thoughtful nature, as well as his unquestioned support for their many pastimes and adventures.

Roy was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 13, 1932, and was an avid art collector, sports fan, traveler, reader, and partaker of many outdoor activities. During his formative years, he was highly involved in the City’s Ukrainian community, as his parents were ardent and active contributors to its life. It was probably at this time that he developed the instinctive ideals of participation and responsibility in one’s community.

Roy attended the University of Saskatchewan, obtaining his BA in 1953 and his law degree (LLB) in 1956. For 45 years, he was engaged in the private practice of law. Called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1956, he accepted a position with the Balfour law firm in Regina. In 1961, Roy was a founding partner of Balfour, McLeod, McDonald, Laschuk and Kyle, which later became Balfour Moss. For many years, he was the senior managing partner of the firm. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1978 and served as President of the Regina Bar Association and chairman or vice-chairman of numerous Boards and Commissions. He represented many public and private institutions including all of Regina’s hospitals and made a name for himself both in the field of oil and gas as well as being legal counsel for the Wascana Centre Authority. In 2006, Roy was appointed a Life Member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, which recognized his 50 years of membership.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan. Please RSVP to graham@laschuklaw.com if you plan to attend.

To Tairroyn and the rest of the family – I was so sorry to read about Roy’s death. It brought back so many memories, beginning with our meeting when Roy was articling at the Makaroff law firm, where I worked when Bill was still in law school. And then, when Tairroyn appeared on the scene, we all became good friends. My condolences to all of you.

My sincere condolences to the Laschuck family. In my early teens I delivered the Leaderpost newspaper to the Laschuck household. The interactions I had with Mr. Laschuck showed me what a true gentleman he was and a man of great integrity. He was the man that young people could look up to and inspire to be. People like Roy will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Sir.
