Ron was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Kay and Les Steeves on August 28, 1941. His pre-school years were spent in Victoria where his father was posted during WW 11, after which the family moved to Calgary. When Ron was 11 yrs old, he contracted polio and spent several months in hospital. During his high-school years, he took up wrestling to improve his mobility. As an adult, he worked in several fields before turning to real estate.
Ron met Ruth Johnson in 1992 in Calgary and they married in 1993, taking a cruise down the Amazon River visiting local villages, several Caribbean Islands and Costa Rica. Both loved to travel and, in the years, ahead made trips to Hawaii, Mexico and later motorhome trips to Arizona and California.
Ron was an active member of the Calgary Northmount Kiwanis Club for many years where he and Ruth enjoyed many friendships and activities. He loved cars and in his earlier years he belonged to the Quarter-Milers Car Club.
In 2004, after visiting friends on Vancouver Island, Ron and Ruth moved to Arbutus Ridge,
Cobble Hill, BC where they spent the next 10 years enjoying many social activities, golfing and gardening. They re-located to Falcon Ridge Estates, Victoria where they spent their remaining years together. In 2022 he became a resident at Luther Court where he received excellent care. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 8th, 2024.
Ron is survived by his wife Ruth, and from his previous marriage, daughters Jodi Kokonis and Niki Fitzgerald of Vernon, BC, grandchildren Jordan Kokonis (Stacy), Colby Kokonis, Kathleen Fitzgerald and David James ‘DJ’ Fitzgerald (Brayden), step-sons Keith Johnson and Kevin Johnson (Nanda) and step-grandchildren Stefano and Francesco Johnson.

Peter Smith Met Ron many years ago as a member of the Quarter Milers Car Club. A real gentleman. My condolences to the entire family on the loss of Ron.
We recall with fond memories of getting to know Ron and Ruth through Northmount Kiwanis and being neighbours at a beautiful RV park at Scotch Creek, BC. Those times always had good food, great social events and terrific debates, that will stay with us. Ron was a treasure to all who knew him.
