Roméo Noël Verrier died peacefully on January 29, 2023 in Victoria, BC. He was born on November 22, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one of Aimé and Lina’s three rambunctious and fun-loving sons.

Roméo was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years Rose in 2017, his son Marc in 2013 and his brothers Louis (Émérence) and Léo (Rita). He leaves to mourn his loss his children Gisèle (Raymond), Gilbert (Gisèle), Joanne, Gérald and Robert (Susan).

Roméo enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren Francine (Dan), Rémi, Angèle (Tim), Sophie (Ben), Pierre (Danielle), Lauren (Nathan), Alix (Eddie), Chloe (Chris), Sylvain (Gabrielle), Gaelyn, Dana, Chas, Joey and Keyanna; and his great grandchildren Mathis, Zoe, Xavier, Yann, Waeva, Leah, Rae, Carter, Jordan, Patricia and Hayes also added much pleasure to his life. The family also wishes to acknowledge Roger and Denise Sabourin for their lifelong friendship with ‘Oscar’ and Rose.

Roméo graduated from Collège de St-Boniface and was especially grateful for his education at this institution where he established the Famille-Roméo-et-Rose-Verrier Student Scholarship Fund.

Roméo was proud of his accomplishments as Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Boniface School Division. He also enjoyed his position as Vice-President of Finance for the Winnipeg Jets.

In 1987 Roméo and Rose moved to Victoria where they enjoyed a well-deserved retirement filled with travel, gardening and family.

Roméo was a ray of sunshine wherever he went: The twinkle in his eye, his big smile and his countless stories brought joy to all who had the privilege of meeting him. He will be greatly missed.

Roméo loved the ten years he lived at Rose Manor surrounded by many friends and a very caring staff whom the family wishes to thank for their dedication.

We will also be forever grateful to Victoria Hospice for their immeasurable support during Roméo’s final days with us.

A celebration of Roméo’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Sunday, May 28, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Manor or to the Victoria Hospice Society.

=========================================================

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I have just discovered that Mr Verrier has passed. I think of him each time I look at the beautiful buffet and hutch purchased from him and his wife when they downsized their beautiful home by the Assiniboine River. At one point he included us in a family event at their home. A trusting and open kindness you rarely see now. A very lovely man indeed. I extend my (late) condolences to the Verrier family and wish you all well.

  • Suzanne Agnes Olivier Fraser

Sincere condolences to the entire Verrier family on the passing of your loved one, my cousin Oscar. As his mother Lina and my mother Dina were sisters and our two families lived in close proximity in Saint-Boniface, the three Verrier brothers were a big part of the lives of myself and my siblings. Before moving to Quebec from Manitoba, we occasionally saw Oscar and Rose socially and Oscar was always the quick wit with a joke or a funny story to share. I will always remember that winning smile and that infectious sense of humor. May your fond memories of a wonderful man sustain you during this time of sorrow.

  • Claire Carriere

So very sorry for your loss! Have fond memories of Uncle Romeo…. His deep friendship with Dad, their stories of their early exploits at Collège and through their sports and in later years, their business talks! Your dad was « another brother » to Mom and she loved spending time with him, and in the recent years, the phone calls and occasional cards!. I will miss his infectious laugh, great humour and mischievous twinkle in his eyes. So very happy he was near his kids and grandkids in his final years! Hugs to all!!!

  • Pat Sheedy

We didn’t have the good fortune to know or meet Roméo but we have a warm and fond impression of him. He is a great grandfather of our grand daughters Leah and Rae, who both did get a chance to spend time with him.
To all of Roméo’s family, descendants, and friends, may you find heartwarming comfort in your memories of him.

    Kind regards,
    Pat and Allyson Sheedy

  • Nicole Verrier

So sorry for your loss of a wonderful and funny man!
I have lovely memories of Uncle Romeo throughout the years. Uncle Romeo was very witty and lots of fun to talk to. And we had a special link – we shared a love for accounting and would often talk shop when we saw each other at various events.

Like Memere Verrier his mother, Uncle Romeo often had a sparkle in his eyes which I knew meant fun mischief and to listen for it. I will miss Uncle Romeo but I know he’s with my Dad and their youngest brother Uncle Leo and having a great ole time.
    Love and hugs, Nicole Verrier
