Died peacefully on October 18, 2008 at the age of 62 in Victoria after a courageous battle with COPD. Roger was born in Birmingham, England and emigrated to Canada as a child, with his formative years spent living in Winnipeg and Montreal. As an adult, Roger lived in Wainwright, Alberta, Banff, Alberta, Qualicum Beach, B.C., and for the last 12 years in Victoria, B.C.
Predeceased by his mother, Patricia, Roger is survived by his father George (Gisela), brother Malcolm (Gayle), sons Justin (Andrea) and Tate (Christina). He will be missed by his good friend Michelia and her husband King and their family, long time friend Marcia, and many other relatives, friends, and co-workers.
Roger was a creative and intelligent man with his own unique sense of humour. He filled various working roles in his life and displayed skill and perfectionism as a carpenter and renovator and particularly enjoyed his work at Ensign Chrysler before illness forced an early retirement. Roger had a passion for food, a love of coffee, and was always up for a conversation. He left an impression on many who crossed his path.
Roger’s family would like to thank Dr. Hepburn, Dr. Poulson, the respiratory ward at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, and the GSS staff at the Gorge Hospital for the care and attention provided.
Roger’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, October 26th at 3pm with an outdoor ceremony at Clover Point in Victoria, followed by a 4pm reception at JB’s Cafe, located at 911 Yates St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Cross ECMELS program which provided medical equipment which greatly assisted Roger in his final years.
