Bob passed away suddenly from a heart attack while in his home in Puerto Escondido. Always yearning for the tropics and finding the heat “good for his bones,” he made Mexico his permanent home in 2012. Bob was born and raised a Victoria boy with roots that boasted a grandfather who helped lay the foundation for the Johnson St. Bridge.
When he graduated from Mt. Douglas High School, Bob began his lifelong adventure with cars. His first job was with Budget Rent a Car followed by the Classic Car Museum. At one point or another during his 71 years, Bob bought, sold and owned over 115 cars. He could also build or fix most things and these skills endeared him to many in the Sidney yachting community where for many years he ran a boat maintenance and supply company. He also shared his father’s talent as a salesman and spent many years working at Triangle RV.
He loved the women in his life, from his mother to girlfriends and wives; he spoiled a lot of us right up to the end with flowers and chocolates on any and every occasion.
We will remember Bob for his overwhelming upbeat personality and the twinkle in his eye. He may not have set the world on fire, but he didn’t have to. He was a good man and that is quite good enough.
Bob was predeceased by his brother, Terry; mother, Jacqueline and father, Walter. He is survived by his youngest brother, Bruce; nephews, Graham and Gerrit and by his dear friend, Evelyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC (Royal Oak).

Kathy (Kathleen) Worth Bob was a treasured honorary member of the Worth family. He was, indeed, a good man, and an inventive one. There is not a single Worth family Christmas that goes by without me visualizing him standing in my kitchen, grinning from ear to ear while “mashing” his contribution (the mashed potatoes) with some gadget he had fashioned out of a coathanger or something, which was powered by an electric drill! It took me weeks to clean the mashed potatoes out of the shutters in my kitchen, but it was so well worth it for the entertainment value of the performance. Although it has been a long time since I have seen him due t his move to Mexico, I will truly miss knowing he is lighting up a corner of the world somewhere with his great smile and personality. A sad loss of a very, very good man…
Bob and I were high school buddies at Mount Douglas. We both had an interest in cars and girls. Although we kept in touch after high school we did somewhat go our separate ways. Bob worked for Budget and I went to further my education but we always kept in touch.
Bob and I reconnected after I had been away and teaching, we both liked cars and being on the water in one form or another. In the 1970’s we formed an informal group of boaters travelling through the San Juan and Gulf Islands on summer holidays, we called our trip the “putt through”, because of the slow moving boats. We travelled to Roche Harbour, Bedwell Harbour, Port Browning and sometimes Ganges Harbour.
Port Browning on Pender Island was always a focal point partly because we could buy pitchers of Margaritas for $.99, very acidic but one being very strong. Bob was famous for pulling up in his boat and unloading a large plastic milk container full of various bottles of hard liquor, always with a huge smile.
Many times we sleep on a treed knowl overlooking the marina, (you can’t bed down there anymore) and we would wake up laughing about the fact that we were still alive.
So Bob was always a lot of fun but not without being centered on what is important. Around his 70th birthday Bob contacted me, I am a year older, we were basically comparing life notes. I am now 77 so I did a search to find him and I am sad he has passed, he was a good friend and RIP. Don
