Rita died on November 8, 2018 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Victoria, BC, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Predeceased by husband Mike and brother Ron in 2002, she is survived by brother Larry, children Theresa (Paul), Michael (Rhonda), Terry (Cathy), Kevin, Chris (Cathryn) and Dan (Dee), 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Rita was born in Vancouver, BC, living in Grand Forks, BC, and Lethbridge, Alberta, before moving to Victoria after graduating from high school. She then worked at Spencer’s Department Store as an interior decorator’s assistant, where she loved choosing colour schemes and fabrics for draperies and slipcovers for fine Uplands’ homes. Rita met Mike at the Catholic Youth Group at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, marrying in 1948 and becoming a full time wife and mother. They became active members of St. Patrick’s Parish: Rita joining the choir and CWL, baking, sewing and knitting for their annual bazaar and helping make St. Clare Villa a reality.

A Funeral Mass for Rita will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish, 2060 Haultain Street, on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 12:10 p.m.
