It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Murray, our gentle and kind husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend who sadly left this world on October 13, 2023. He passed peacefully with his family by his side at Royal Jubilee Hospital making everyone laugh until the very end.
Murray was born July 18, 1949 in Nelson, BC. He grew up there and met the love of his life, Dorothy, during a Sadie Hawkins dance in high school. They spent 51 years happily married raising three daughters together.
Murray’s job as a banker took them to all parts of BC creating life-long friendships along the way. He shared his passion for motorcycles with family and friends, with many wild adventures throughout North America.
Murray, a dedicated Rotarian, was a patient, caring and good-natured man who always made time for others. His heart was bigger than life and his amazing sense of humour brought laughter and joy everywhere he went. His calming presence and bright smile will forever be missed.
Murray is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughters Marlo, Manda (Ian) and Kara (Alberto), grandchildren McKinley, Wyatt and Maelynn, and brother-in-laws Ron, Tom (Jean) and Dan (Lynda). He was predeceased by his sister Judi.
Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Horgan, Dr. Brown, Rowena, and all the staff on 5 South at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Pat Armstrong I am so sorry to hear of Murray’s passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family. I grew up next door to the Winlaw family in Nelson, BC. I chummed with Murray’s sister Judi for a number of years and we spent a lot of time together. Murray was always around when we were together even at that time he was quite the character and spent time with my younger brothers. Murray reached out to me sometime ago and then covid hit and that was put on hold. Cherish each day as your last.
Although Murray and I worked in different departments of Scotiabank, it did not take us long to become fast friends. We had many enjoyable motorcycle rides and get togethers.
Murray took genuine interest in everyone he met.
I envied his fantastic memory for their names and hobbies.
