Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on October 30th. She is predeceased by her husband, Jimmy (2017).

Mary is survived by her son, Gerald (Elizabeth); daughter, Christine and grandchildren, Arran and Breanna (Zereau). She will be missed by her sister-in-law, Rose and her family, together with many relatives in Scotland as well as her niece, Jillian and family in Germany and Canada.

After immigrating with her family to Canada in 1967, Mary began a long career working for Eaton’s until her retirement in 1993. Her duties had her represent the Eaton’s employees on the United Way board which led into a strong vocation of volunteer work. She followed with a long and dedicated presence as a board member and supporter of The St Vincent de Paul Society. Her efforts in support of people in need, her faith and family were what people appreciated most in her always cheerful disposition. Her love of travel with her husband in their 60+ years of marriage helped her to enjoy life and left her family with many great memories.

The family would like to thank Doctors Miles, DeMott, Glenn and Cook at the Royal Jubilee Hospital as well as Kevin and all the nurses who made her last days very comfortable.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Blanshard at View Street, on Thursday, November 8th at 12 noon with a reception to follow.

Mary’s family have asked that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to The Society of St Vincent de Paul, 4353 West Saanich Road, Victoria V8Z 3E8

Mrs Spencer was a lovely lady, and I enjoyed seeing her and chatting to her when she came to Christine’s singing performances. She had a very warm presence and a welcoming smile and, even knowing her for such a short time, I became very fond of her. I send my sincere condolences to Christine and Mrs Spencer’s extended family. She made a difference. I’m holding you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Dear family,
Please know I share your grief.
Aunt Mary was such a good person. As a child I was plagued by warts on my hand, she bought them from me for a shilling, it worked! Always my hero afterwards.
Aunt Mary was so kind, generous and reliable when my sister, Christine, was in hospital in Vancouver.
Aunt Mary will be missed by the many she helped and entertained during her lifetime.
Safe in the arms of Uncle Jimmy once more.
When will we see your likes again?
    God Bless.

So sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a wonderful lady, a joy to be around, always welcoming, always there when a hand was needed. Have enjoyed Jimmy and Mary’s company whenever the occasion arose and through our soccer connection I was privileged to know them over many, many years. What a great couple they were and what special friends they became. Sincerest condolences to Christine and Gerald and those extended family members that we came to know through Jimmy and Mary. May they both rest in peace knowing what a wonderful legacy they have left behind!
