Mary passed away at Sunrise of Victoria, BC after a period of illness. Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in Great Britain, Mary came to Canada as a young girl. She married Eyolfur Lloyd (Lief) Erickson, a young Constable in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and accompanied him in his 35 years of service across Canada from sea to sea to sea.
Their times in Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories brought them happiness, adventure and a wealth of good friends. A strong and independent woman, Mary held to high standards and bestowed unwavering loyalty upon those close to her. Retired to Victoria, Mary enjoyed golf as an active member of Uplands Golf Club and was particularly supportive of the club’s annual Heart and Stroke tournament.
She was a curler and an avid gardener, with a special love for the hummingbirds that flocked to her feeders. Mary was the anchor of her small Cordova Bay neighbourhood, always enjoying a good story and a chuckle.
Predeceased by Lief, her loving husband of 53 years, she is survived by his nieces and nephews in Manitoba.
Many thanks go to the staff at Sunrise of Victoria who cared for Mary with love and respect.
Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and the Yukon.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Mary and Lief were our next door neighbours for all the years they lived in their Cordova Bay home, on the point of the street, with their beautiful gardens. She would be dismayed to see the yard now. Mary was bright and funny, calling to her neighbours from her deck. She loved golf. Coming up the street in her car she would often stop to chat with me – I enjoyed that. She really was a unique woman. I’m glad she was warmly cared for at Sunrise.
