It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elaine Csordas on September 2, 2023, after a brief illness.
Mary was predeceased by her mother; father; her sister, Joan; and her brother, Michael.
She was born in New Westminster, BC, as the eldest of 8 children, to parents Harold and Elaine Shannon. She had a happy childhood in Rossland and moved to Victoria in her 20’s to pursue a career in nursing. She met the love of her life, Ferenc “Frank” Csordas there and they were married in 1971, spending 52 ½ happy years together.
Frank and Mary had no children and spent the first 25 years of their marriage camping together in their camper van, as well as travelling to Europe multiple times and on various wonderful road trips together. They loved being in each other’s company. Mary loved spending time together with her family and feeding them amazing meals she had created. The last 25 years of her marriage were spent building various communities in church, the Hungarian Club, Walking groups and Aqua fit as Mary had faced some health challenges that required regular exercise. She and Frank went to the rec center three times per week for various classes.
Esquimalt lagoon was one of their favourite places to sit together and reflect near the ocean.
Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, her family, and numerous friends.
A Funeral Mass for Mary will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 849 Old Esquimalt Road, Victoria, BC, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 12:10pm with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to BC Cancer – Victoria, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8R 6V5. Or through Bccancerfoundation.com/donations.

Joseph Shannon Dear Mary,
As the eldest of my 1st cousins, I only knew you a little. But, that was enough to know that you were a kind and genuine person. I have enjoyed the few short times that we have been able to visit you in my later life. I will miss seeing you in the future. And, Frank, I look forward to talking with you from time to time. Vic

Margaret Varga Becoming friends with Mary and Frank these years has been a gift I have cherished. Mary was fun and calming and loving. So very easy to be with. I am truly grateful to have made friends and enjoyed their company. Our last Sunday at Tims together was very special. She will be smiling down on us, but missed sorely at the table.
Sorry to hear about her passing Frank. We had some good parties together “away back when”.
