Born on March 22, 1937 in Edmonton Alberta, Mary Beth passed away due to Covid complications on Thursday February 24, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband Gerry.

Mary Beth was the eldest of seven children of Ambrose and Kathleen O’Neill. She will be missed by her children Sean (Michelle), Darcy (Jacqueline) and Kelly (James) and grandchildren Kira, Shelby, Cody, Steven, Shane, Tanner and JP.  She is survived by her siblings, Peggy (Gerry-deceased), Maureen (John), Doreen (Ray), Loretta (Jack-deceased), Patrick (Lorna), and Michael (Laurie), and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Beth spent her early years in Edmonton until she went to Bonnyville to watch a certain hockey player. This meeting would evolve into a marriage of 27 years. During their time together Mary Beth and Gerry would travel extensively as Gerry was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. This would have them living in Edmonton AB, Baden Baden (Germany), Richmond BC, Winnipeg MB, Burlington ON, with Mary Beth finally residing in Victoria BC.

Their time together during Gerry’s career with the RCAF also meant time apart. During these periods Mary Beth would show how determined and independent she could be. She was an adamant voice of women’s equality and those in need of a voice. It was through her steadfast footing of faith that she would always find support.

Mary Beth’s appetite for social interaction lead her to working in many personal vocations. She started as a receptionist at CFRN in Edmonton and would end her working career as a manager of an employment center. Throughout her employment years Mary Beth would not only ensure people were dealt with fairly and equally, but also establish friendships that would endure her until her passing.
