HOOVER, Martha Joan
Martha passed away peacefully in her 88th year on February 7, 2008. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Elmer (El) Hoover; sisters, Ruth, Betty; and brother, Dan. She is sadly missed by her son, Ed; daughter, Terrie and son-in-law, Brian Procter. She will also be sadly missed by grandchildren, Bradly Procter, David Procter, Crystal Hoover, Caroline Hoover, Jessica Hoover, and great grandson, Sean Vaska; sisters, Mary MacDonald, Anne Valouch; brothers, George, Bill, Andy, Victor and Ted Kazimer.
Born in Flat Lake, Alberta, she grew up in Vernon, BC and married El in 1940 in Vancouver. El and Martha had many business ventures over the years and Martha was always there be it driving taxi, dry cleaning or running a restaurant, she was the lynch-pin that held things together. She balanced this with raising two children and being a loving grandmother to five grandchildren.
They lived and worked in the Vancouver area until 1989 and moved to a little bit of paradise on Mayne Island. There Martha’s artistic side blossomed and she was a leader in the island quilting society. She loved the cribbage club and excelled in that. Her green thumb was always obvious with beautiful indoor and outdoor plants.
Martha was loved by all who came to know her well. Her many and long visits to Saanich Peninsula Hospital were graced by the love and excellent care of the staff there. For this the family is forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation Fund.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Vernon, BC.
