Marion Harris passed away in the arms of her daughter Colleen on February 13, 2009. Marion passing was peaceful and gentle as she listened to Marie singing and playing her favourite songs and hymns on guitar. Good friend Marg was also by her side, providing much love and support, just as she had always done.

Marion was born July 30, 1918, the eldest daughter of Annie and Herman Huff of Brantford, Ontario and was predeceased by her five siblings during her lifetime. She and her husband Ted had five children, Jeanette, Linda, Robert, Russell and Colleen. Marion was predeceased by Ted in 1975 and her eldest daughter Jeanette in 2002.

Marion came to live in Victoria with her daughter Colleen in 2000, and quickly became her ever-present side-kick on car rides, shopping excursions, trips to the pub and many other adventures. Marion had a particular love of music and was known to spontaneously break into song in the most unexpected situations. Her quick wit and saucy personality made her a favourite to all who knew her and particularly at Mt. St. Mary Hospital where she spent the final years of her life.

Marion will be greatly missed by her remaining children, her grandchildren, Zoellyn, Capucine, Grayson, Teaguen, Ayden, Paula and Emily, as well as great-grandchildren Gideon and Gulliver.

Anyone wishing to share in a celebration of Marion’s life is welcome to attend a memorial service to be held at St. Ann’s Academy Chapel on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 3:30 pm.

Your mom was a very special lady. Her feisty nature and sense of humor are going to be missed. We always looked forward to seeing her when you brought her downstairs. We are also going to miss seeing you rush in and out during the day.
I’m sorry I missed her service but I came down with a cold.

    Dear Colleen,

We’ll be thinking of you and Marion at 3:30 this afternoon. Your care for your mother was a model to us all, a testament not only to your devotion but also to her capacity to elicit such devotion. Mount St. Mary’s can never have seen the like before, and I do not think that they will ever see it again. You will both be missed.

Thank you so much Colleen, for letting me share those few precious final moments with you and Marion. It meant more to me than you will ever know. We had many happy moments breaking out into song, doing ANY activities and just sitting and chatting. I hope you realize what a difference you made in her life…she looked forward to seeing you every day. I could not imagine a more devoted daughter…we should all be so lucky in our later years. I will miss her dearly as my work continues at Mount St. Mary; as I know many people will.

Our Cordova Bay United Church singers come to Mt. St. Mary’s every other Monday. This is how I got to know Marion and I looked forward to seeing her each time. What a very special lady she was. I loved her from my first meeting with her. When I would hold her hands and sing to her she ALWAYS joined in and knew most of the songs and hymns we sang. I wish I had known her much longer and can only imagine what a fun person she must have been – we’d have made a great pair! I always looked for her each time we visited Mt. St. Mary’s. I will miss her warm smile, sparkling eyes and her very presence. My deepest sympathy to all her family.
