We are sad to announce that we had to say goodbye to Marietta Wojatsek. Our beloved mother, grandmother slipped quietly away from us at the age of 97.

Predeceased by her husband Charles, Marietta intrepidly navigated the ebbs and flows of life with him for 59 years.  Together they embraced ambiguity with geniality, moving without hesitation from their native Slovakia to Switzerland, Canada, United States, France, and finally back to Canada.

Marietta landed in Victoria 30 years ago, after a career teaching French and German to high school students in several countries.  In Victoria, she pursued a life long ambition to establish herself as an artist under the signature “Miette”. Her oil, still lifes and landscapes hang in many collections in the United States and Canada.

Marietta will be remembered for the way in which she treated everyone with kindness and respect and the dignified and polite manner in which she carried herself.  We will forever treasure her example.

Marietta is survived by her son Thomas (Helen), and grandsons Max and Steve.  We would like to thank the staff at Berwick Royal Oak for their care and attention during the final years of her life.

Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei, requiescat in pace.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
