It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Maria da Estrela Galego. She passed away peacefully to the arms of our Lord surrounded by her family.
Maria da Estrela was born to the late Rosa and Manuel do Canto in Santa Cruz, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal on March 10th, 1939. She immigrated to Victoria, British Columbia on June 22nd, 1972 with her husband Manuel, mother-in-law, Francelina Oliveira Galego, along with their five children in hopes of a better future for their family.
Maria loved her faith and spent time volunteering for the Holy Spirit Committee at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, where she also attended the seniors group. Maria was a selfless, hardworking, loving, caring and gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humour. She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched many lives and will be forever missed by her family and friends.
She leaves behind her children, Francelina (John), Liduina (Helder), John (Helen), Ana (Leo), Nelia (Rob); six grandchildren, Robert (Caitlin), Deborah Lee, Vanessa (Joshua), Jonathan (Amanda), Stephanie (Devin) and Hailey (Sebastian); seven great grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Haidyn, Mari, Jonathan Jr., Brynn, and Ariella, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by two sisters and one brother, Rosa Machado, Maria Dos Anjos Cordeiro, and Jose do Canto, along with her sister-in-law Aida Galego.
Mom, you will be deeply missed, never forgotten and will remain forever in our hearts. We were so blessed to have had you in our lives. Until we meet again, dear and beloved Mom. Rest in peace.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria, British Columbia. The service will be followed by a burial at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria, British Columbia.
