Meg died peacefully at home on January 12 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Kingston, Jamaica in February, 1926, Meg was the youngest of six children of William and Blanche Soutar. She married Ted in 1948 and they moved to Canada in 1954 with two young sons. They lived in Sorel, Quebec for 25 years, Toronto for 7 years, and have been in Victoria for the past 20 years. Meg was always very active, an accomplished skier, tennis player, golfer, and masterful cook. She enjoyed traveling, especially the beaches of Maui in recent years. Meg’s kind and gentle nature and wonderful sense of humour were among her strongest assets. She leaves behind many close friends in Victoria, across Canada, and around the world. Meg is survived by her loving husband Ted; brothers Don and Farren (Joy); sister Yvonne; sons Chris (Jenny) and Steve (Toby); grandchildren Sharene (Dugald) and Steven (Cicily); and great-grandchildren Sophie, Elise, and Arco. The immediate family also includes her dear friend Cicely and Cicely’s children Val and Brian. Meg’s family sincerely thanks the doctors, nurses, and home care support staff at the Victoria Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care, enabling Meg to complete her life journey as she wished.
A service celebrating Meg’s life will be held on Friday, January 18 at 2:00 pm at McCall Bros., 1400 Vancouver Street in Victoria. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the Victoria Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
