In Loving Memory

It is with a mix of sadness and love that we bid farewell to Marcia, more commonly known as Colleen, who departed this world on September 27, 2023, leaving behind an enduring legacy of strength, love, and cherished memories. Born on January 7, 1956, her life was a testament to her spirit.

Colleen is survived by her beloved older sister Kathleen Thomas and Kathleen’s children: Melinda Peterson, her husband Josh Peterson, and their two children, Jenna and Reese Peterson. She is also survived by Kathleen’s son, Sean Thomas, and his son, Isaiah Thomas.

In addition to her sister’s family, Colleen is survived by her younger brother Wayne Leeke, his loving wife Gail Leeke, and their daughter Kiana Leeke. Her family was a source of comfort and support throughout her remarkable journey.

Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 19, Colleen faced the challenges with a stubborn determination to live life to the fullest extent possible. Her resilience and courage inspired all who knew her, proving that the human spirit could conquer even the most difficult adversities. Colleen defied expectations, living long past what was anticipated, and her journey was a testament to the power of the human will.

Colleen had a love for good music, with soft rock as a special favorite, a special talent as an artist filling her surroundings with music and art. She cherished good company and the warmth of shared moments. Her passion for food and movies was a reflection of her zest for enjoying life and creating unforgettable memories.

In her later years, Colleen spent her time at Mount St. Mary’s, where the dedicated staff provided her with care, support, and companionship. She also found a dear friend in Alex, who shared in her journey, offering friendship and support. Together, they formed a bond that added warmth to her life in those later years.

Colleen’s smile, her spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends will be remembered always. Her absence leaves a void, but her memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

An Interment Service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, on January 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service to celebrate Colleen’s extraordinary life, in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, at 2:00 pm.

Colleen Leeke’s life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the capacity to find joy in the face of adversity. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who had the honor of knowing her.

Kathy, Wayne and families, Our sincere condolences on the loss of your sister Colleen. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Linda, Leanne, Warren and Michelle and families.

I was a year older than Colleen. She was a year behind me at Mt Doug. While I did not know her very well I remember her as a beautiful outgoing young woman. I remember hearing of her diagnosis a few years later and often wondered how things went for her. She was the first person my age that I knew that had contracted MS. My condolences to your family.

  • Cathy Campbell

The Leekes were our backyard neighbours, and Colleen our babysitter. I clearly remember the day that Louise came to tell me of teenaged Colleens unfortunate diagnosis and the heartache it caused for all.
From our family to yours, especially Wayne and Kathy, sincere condolences.
Cathy Campbell, Tracy Farquhar, Dave Campbell, Cheryl Campbell and Deb Campbell (ex Ventura Way residents)
