The badminton enthusiast, a courageous cancer warrior, hardcore health nut, the cheerful and considerate woman, the most loving tiger mom, and the best wife in the world whatsoever. I will find you again in my next life. (words from the worse half – Ken)

Our mom was a sweet and funny little lady. She was a talented gardener and always found the best deals. We’ll miss her “sh*t” scones, potato salad and egg custard. She was an inspiring athlete who worked out at least once a day but stayed out of the sunlight because she was afraid of getting freckles. She would also secretly drink Schweppes Cream Soda in between her super healthy meals. We’ll always think of her when we arrive 5 hours early at the airport or ferry terminal “just to be safe”.

Despite being so busy she always had time and energy for us. She was the best mom ever (and she knows it) and we miss her a lot.  From her kids, Wilson and Emily.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2017, in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

We are deeply saddened by Mandy’s passing. We admire her dedication and discipline to healthy eating and activities. It was fun playing badminton with her. Her shots can be very powerful, driving us all the way to the back or very soft, right at the net, but we won’t know until the last split second. She was very generous in sharing her bountiful harvest from her garden as well as helpful advices. We will remember her laughter, fun-loving teasings and her generous, helpful spirit.
With our heartfelt condolences to Ken, Wilson, Emily & the rest of her family.
    Tabitha, Nelson, Becky & Robbie

I am truly saddened by Nancy’s passing. I knew her for a short but very spiritually powerful time in her journey. We shared a bond of peace and reverence in the reiki practice that meant so much to het as she came to terms with her disease. It was my honor to know you and share the sacred spiritual journey with you.
She shared her love of her family with me and the devotion they have for each other. Blessings on your continued journey my dear Mandy

    Dear Mandy,
It was a fond memory of you as our neighbor and good friend for the past 20 years. We surely enjoyed your warm hospitality in sharing the good food that you often brought back from Vancouver. We also treasured the opportunity to trade the garden produce that we each grew from our greenhouses. We really appreciated your caring and support when I was sick by making soup and congee for me. We deeply lost you as a comrade to fight the battle of cancer. We will remember you every day when we dog-walk on Greentree!
    Florence and Francis

My heartfelt condolences to Ken, Emily and Wilson.
You were the love and light of her life. She was quiet soul and took a bit to get to know, but once you got to know her she was a truly bright, warm, and wonderful friend and co-worker. I treasure my gifts from her travels and miss her.

It is very hard to lose a wonderful friend whom you’ve known for more than 30 years.

Mandy’s warm personality, friendliness and straightforwardness were some of the reasons why my wife and I so quickly became close friends with her and Ken when we moved to Victoria in 1985. Back then, neither of us had children. We spent lots of weekends staying up late in their home to watch movies, share ideas or simply enjoy each other’s company. Our bond grew even stronger after we had children. Mandy’s and our kids went to the same elementary school, were taught by the same piano teacher, and trained by the same badminton coach.

We had had countless moments of joy and unforgettable memories with Mandy, from small talks when picking up kids from school/training, watching our kids performing at piano recitals, cheering in badminton tournaments, millions of pot luck gatherings, outdoor activities such as camping and clam digging, travelling to China and Alaska. Over those years, Mandy had shown us her genuinely nice and caring personality and her tireless dedication to her family. She was truly a very special friend, a great mother and a loving person.

It is very hard for us to lose Mandy as a dear friend and it is beyond our imagination how hard it is for Wilson and Emily to lose their mother, Ken to lose his wife, and family members to lose Mandy. Our thoughts are with you all and we hope you find comfort and strength during this very difficult time.

    With love and deepest sympathy,
    Frank, Sylvia and Family!

Mandy was an amiable lady. I still remember the time not long after my family and I moved into the neighborhood, she came over to introduce herself and invited us over for BBQ. It was from then on we built up our wonderful friendship. Thanks for always encouraging me to play badminton and for sharing all the joys and fun.
Mandy will be remembered in our hearts forever.

    With deepest sympathy,
    Wendy, Edmond, Juliana and Toby

I’m very shocked hearing that and cannot believe the cruel truth. There will be no way for me to say thanks to Mandy for her kind help over years at Victoria when we are in the same team! She left behind a great spiritual heritage ; the programs she coded are still working elegantly everyday and serving BC Drivers …

Life is short, everyone is a only transient tenant of the planet earth, please take care of your beloved, treasure every sunrise !

Please accept my most sincere condolences and wishes to Mandy’s family!

    Sincerely,

    Jeffrey

I have come to know Mandy when I joined her badminton group 16 months ago but I have quickly learned she was a lovely, wonderful, kind and funny lady.  I love it when she called my name in Cantonese translated from English. Her favourite thing to say when addressing someone was calling the person “so and so” in Cantonese.

We all will miss Mandy at badminton and at our gatherings. Her smile, her laugh and the warmth she shared freely will forever remain in our hearts.

    I miss you Mandy.

You used to say `This should be my shot!’ when we missed the birdie. You made the games more enjoyable.
Your smash shots were so powerful… and yet, I have no chance to ask you how you did it.
Maybe you can tell me the secret in my dream.

You will be missed by all of us.

We will always treasure the times we traveled together with Mandy to those faraway places, the funny stories she told that kept us laughing, and the wonderful friendship she lavished upon us so effortlessly. Although Mandy has left us, deep down we know it is only temporary – as we will meet up again sooner or later. What’s important is that Mandy is now free from pain and suffering. Mandy will be dearly missed …..

  • Lori Wilson

I am deeply saddened by the news of Mandy’s passing. My most sincere condolences to her family. I had the pleasure of working with Mandy for many years and appreciated seeing and talking to her everyday. Dear Ken, Emily and Wilson

It’s so sad that when I return next time I will not be able to see Mandy anymore. She was discreet but witty. She loved and enjoyed having fun and laughter. We will miss her at badminton where she always forgot the score, miss her Black sesame soup at our gatherings and her marvellous singing of 帝女花at Karaoke.

Mandy will be dearly missed by all of us and will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Rest in peace. We love you.

  • Clara Yan

I am deeply saddened. I find comfort in knowing Mandy passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her most loved family. She will be remembered in her diligence in pursuing the maximal health for herself and family, in her persistence in badminton, running and hot yoga. Mandy is a beautiful soul. She will be missed by me and my family.
    With heartfelt condolence,
    Clara, Peter, Waishan and Vivian
