It is with sadness that we announce the death of Maarten de Lange Boom. Maarten was a beloved member of his community at the YMCA and in his neighborhood. Always described as a kind and lovely man, he was known as a conversationalist. Whether it was catching up with the neighbours, or a lively discussion about arts and culture, he always had an insightful take on the world. In his work he made good use of his interests and skills, whether at the YMCA, Starbucks or Open Space Gallery. Predeceased by his partner George Kirkpatrick, his parents, Rudolf and Antonia de Lange Boom and brother Tim, Maarten is survived by his brother Bodo, sister-in-law Mary Wilkie, nephew Scott and niece Leona de Lange Boom. In addition, he is survived by cousins in Europe, as well as the many friends he made throughout his life. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Royal Jubilee Hospital 8N Lung and 8S Palliative Wards for the excellent and sensitive care for Maarten.
An informal gathering of family, friends and coworkers will take place from 2 to 5 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the downtown Victoria YMCA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maarten’s name to the Victoria Hospice: victoriahospice.org/ or BC Cancer Foundation: bccancerfoundation.com

Cory Davis My Sincere Condolences. Maarten was my Uncle Georges partner. I always loved being around him, we would look forward to seeing each other and catching up, especially on Hornby Island. There is never enough time to say all the things you want but I can only hope he’s dancing and having fun now.
