Lila Low (nee Lai Har Lam), 89, passed peacefully, October 16, 2021 at Selkirk Seniors Village, Victoria. She was born December 5, 1932 in Kwantung, China and arrived in Canada (after living several years in Hong Kong) with her two young daughters, Geanette and Theresa on May 2, 1959, to be reunited with her husband, Sik Gee (Chung) Low, 88, who preceded her on March 27, 2020. He, too, was from Kwantung, China, born November 5, 1932, arriving in Canada (after living several years in Hong Kong) on June 20, 1957. Sik Gee followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Kong Low who came to Canada in the 1890’s to work in the logging industry and his father Fong Low who started a poultry business in Victoria. The couple were married in Sun Wai, China on February 24, 1951. Both Lila and Sik Gee worked in the restaurant business for decades in Victoria, retiring in the 1980’s. They were a mainstay of the Chinese Community in Victoria, known for their generosity and kindness. They are survived by daughters Geanette Chow (Frank) and Theresa Low (Edgar), and son Maple Low (Wen Ting); grandchildren Michelle (Matt), Kiefer (Martha), and Xavier; great grandchildren Astrid, Dashiell, and Emmett; Sik Gee’s two sisters, Kay and Linda and their children; and Lila’s many siblings and their children in China. Lila and Sik Gee were wonderful caring parents and grandparents (and great-grandparents too), and loved by all who knew them. They were proud to be part of many generations living in Canada since the 19th century. They will be greatly missed by their family and friends and will be forever in their hearts. Rest in peace.
