With great sorrow we say goodbye to Leslie Suey Wang Lum, who passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022 at Victoria Royal Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Leslie was born in Guangdong China and immigrated to Victoria, BC in 1952. He came to Canada with virtually nothing, but worked very hard and sacrificed everything for 6 straight years to save enough funds to bring his wife Oye Lin and son Paul safely to Canada.
Leslie, also lovingly known as Gung Gung, Yeh Yeh or Bak Yeh to his grand and great-grandchildren, was extremely generous and hardworking, but most of all, was a very humble and selfless man. He was the foundation of the family, and a loving husband of 73 years who always put his family first.
He was at his happiest when hosting family get-togethers, which always included plenty of delicious food.
In true Canadian fashion, he embraced our national sport of hockey, cheering on his favourite team, Vancouver Canucks.
Leslie is survived by his wife Oye Lin; sons Paul (Donna), Bill (Laura), John, Dan and daughter Janice (David); grandsons Michael (Rachel), Bryan and Kevin; granddaughters Sian, Emily and Ayva; great-granddaughters Isabelle and Madelyn. He is also survived by his nephew Sunny Lum (Wendy) and family; and will be missed by extended family in Hong Kong, USA and Canada.
A family memorial service is scheduled for February 18, 2022. Viewing will be at 2:00 pm, with service to follow from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens at 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC. The family has requested that all attending guests be fully vaccinated.
For those unable to attend the service in person and would like to attend virtually, please email lesliememorial2022@outlook.com and we will provide you with the Zoom link.
