Leona passed away peacefully at Broadmead Veterans Memorial Lodge, with the close support of family and the professional staff at the Lodge.  Predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Ernie (2002) and daughter Donna (2005) and brother Art (2017). She is survived by sons, Todd (Judy), Craig (Shannon), son- in- law Ray, sister Val, six grandchildren, Raelene, David, Katie, Jake, Cody, and Kayla, along with nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Leona was born and raised in Victoria, then went off to the Canadian Air Forces from 1953 to 1955, then returned to Victoria, BC.  She was active in many outdoor activities, trailer clubs, curling, alley bowling, and bingo halls.  Her passion however was Lawn Bowling, and her dedication was acknowledged when she was chosen as the President of Canadian Ladies Lawn Bowling.  She led a team that brought the creation of the Commonwealth Games Bowling Greens, now known as Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowling Club.  The highlight for Leona’s lawn bowling career, was being selected to participate as an athlete to compete in the Commonwealth Games in 1994.

We wish to thank all the staff at Broadmead Lodge for the care they provided, their professionalism and sincere kindness during the difficult times.  With respect, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Broadmead Veterans Memorial Lodge.

Todd and Judy, Craig and Shannon, we are so sad to hear of Leona’s passing. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and her enormous family. She was a kind and helpful person, especially when it came to taking care of her older relatives. Terry’s mum, her Aunt Trudy, benefitted very much from Leona’s help when she was too old to go out to the grocery store. Leoma’s energy, her generosity and her hearty laugh will always be remembered in our house. She had a terrific memory and would entertain us with stories of the large family she was born into and the one she and Ernie created. She always kept busy and we are sure she has already organized a lawn bowling league up there.

    Best wishes and sincere condolences,

    Jenny and Terry
