I had Mr. Roper for grade 7 at Uplands in 1975/76. He was the best teacher ever by far.

  • David Smith

Outstanding teacher who had a lifelong impact on his students. Mr. Roper was smart, very knowledgeable, funny and cool. He taught my brother (1973-74) and myself (1977-78) at Uplands Elementary School and we’ve both never forgotten the experience. Alan Roper took a real interest in his students and had a contagious enthusiasm for so many things in life.
Once we phoned him at home with a recorded message from The Metrons: angry space aliens who threatened to visit his residence and vaporize his family. Instead of hanging up, getting angry, or panicking (as one other recipient, unfortunately, did) – Mr. Roper was completely in on the joke, telling the menacing Metrons to “bring your own beer.”
We’ll always greatly appreciate the time we had with Mr. Roper, a terrific gentleman. Mrs. Roper was a wonderful and kind teacher as well.
Best wishes always to the Roper family!

    Still miss you, Dad!
