Alex (Joseph Alexander George) Stewart was born in Vermilion, Alberta on November 16, 1938 and was the second oldest of 7 children. He and his mother and sisters had many escapades with horses and pioneer farming. With his Uncle Bob’s encouragement, he joined the Alberta Government Department of Public Works. Alex went to Alberta College and then SAIT/NAIT completing his journeyman carpenter certificate, and became a supervisor of building construction, and then advanced to senior management responsible for government properties throughout Alberta.
He met his wife Carol at the Lacombe convention 60 years ago and they were married for 58 years. Alex was always one to lead by example in serving God, working hard building homes, caring for purebred horses, photography, playing the violin and learning to play the bagpipes when he turned 70.
Alex passed on to his eternal reward on August 26, 2023. He leaves behind a loving family with many dear cousins, nephews, nieces and children.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

Paige Stevensen It’s truly disheartening to learn of Alex Stewart’s transition from this world. Amidst life’s ups and downs, Alex stood as a pillar of faith and calm.
I am Paige Stevensen, the second youngest daughter of the late Keith and Helen Hoecherl. While my interactions with Alex were limited, the impressions he left on my close family were profound. Alex was a man of humility and compassion, always taking the time to genuinely connect with those he spoke to. The Stewart family has a certain majestic aura, and Alex embodied that beautifully.
Carol, my heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. May the days ahead bring you comfort as you reflect on the cherished memories that once filled your life with warmth and joy. While time does offer healing, navigating through this particular moment is its own challenge. Lean on your faith and the supportive community around you as you embark on this new chapter. Remember, resilience grows in the face of adversity. You’re in my thoughts. Take care.

Leola Joy Hoecherl-Stewart To the family of Alex Stewart. I have many fond memories of Alex over the years in Alberta. My parents, Lloyd & Betty always spoke so highly of Alex and Carol and family.
My deepest condolences go out to the family.
Dear Carol and family, we are so very sorry to hear about your loss. We only learned about Alex’ passing, the day after his service.
Our paths first crossed in 1983 when you and Alex and the kids came to Vancouver Island in the summer, and were at my folks place for Sunday morning meeting. Mom invited you folks to stay for lunch and I was telling Alex about wanting to transfer with the Bank to Edmonton, however, they weren’t moving fast enough for me. Alex hired me as his personal assistant at the Atria Building on 50th Street…and although I was only there for 5 months…it was a time of growth and learning new lessons after ‘flying the coop’ for the first time.
It was so special to see you occasionally once you moved to the Island.
Mom and I send our deepest condolences to you and the family.
