With great sadness, the family would like to announce the passing of Jose Saeta Pimentel, who died unexpectedly but peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on December 31, 2022. He was born on October 18, 1938 in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Acores, the youngest child of 11 children.

He was predeceased by his parents Antonio Pimentel and Maria dos Santos Saeta and his 10 siblings.  He leaves behind his loving wife Virginia, his children Clara (Mark), Moses (Anita), Becky (Carlos), and his beloved grandchildren Taylor, Adrianna (John), Sophia, Blake, Athena, Brooke and Luke, and many other family members.

Joe arrived in Canada on Christmas Eve in 1960 and embraced his new life here. After meeting Virginia, he moved to Kitimat, BC, where the couple married in 1964. In 1974, the now family of five moved to Victoria, BC, where Joe worked in construction for many years. In 1977, Joe fulfilled his longtime dream of owning a farm and building a home for his family – where he lived the rest of his life.  He was passionate about his farm and loved to share it with everyone he met, through this becoming a permanent fixture in the community. In his later years as his Alzheimers progressed, he enjoyed interacting with passers-by in front of his house on West Saanich Road.

A special thank you to the doctors and all the staff at Victoria General Hospital who cared for him in the last two months of his life.

Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC on Friday, January 6th, 2023 at 10:00 am.  Interment will take place at Royal Oak Burial Park following the mass.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia.

    Dear Virginia and Family –
With sorrow, I learn that Joe has died. Such a loss for our community, and what a presence he has maintained. I’m still growing the Giant Portuguese Kale: Joe gave me a vial of about a million seeds years ago, when he saw me over at Ambrosio’s. And any problem roosters I had, were always welcomed for his 70 hens!
    I will miss him.
My son Morgan Price joins me in offering our sincere condolences.

My condolences to you all in this difficult time.
Joe was my neighbour. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when I needed to wrangle my goats after they escaped and were running down West Saanich. He was always a pleasant sight to see waving at the end of his driveway. My daycare children and I send a big wave to Joe! May he rest in peace.
