Grandpa John passed away peacefully with his loving wife Vanna by his side.

His humour, wit, charm and endless modesty will be greatly missed by his sons, Ian (Karen), Neil (Jennifer), grandchildren, Connor (Moa), Alix, Nicholas (Iris), Emma, Christopher and Hannah, great-grandson, Axel, siblings, Norman, Richard, Elaine and many relatives in England.

John was born in Wallsend, England and came to Victoria to pursue a better life for his family. He worked in the ship building industry starting as a draftsman and rising to senior management. John was actively involved in youth soccer and baseball, giving endless amounts of time and energy. Even in his later years, he could not pass a sports event without stopping to watch (and give advice).

John had an outgoing personality and made friends easily. He will be remembered fondly by many for his warmth, friendship and kindness.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I’m very sad to read about the passing of John Wells. He was a great man and lots of fun to talk to or have a drink with; a guy that everyone liked upon meeting him.
My sincere condolences to the entire Wells Family and especially to his wife Vanna.

To my dear friend Vanna and Family of John Wells. A poem by John O’Donohue Bennacht/ Blessing. : On the day when
    the weight deadens
    on your shoulders
    and you stumble,
    may the clay dance
    to balance you.

    And when your eyes
    freeze behind
    the grey window
    and the ghost of loss
    gets into you,
    may a flock of colours,
    indigo, red, green
    and azure blue,
    come to awaken in you
    a meadow of delight.

    When the canvas frays
    in the currach of thought
    and a stain of ocean
    blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
    a path of yellow moonlight
    to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.

    And so may a slow
    wind work these words
    of love around you,
    an invisible cloak
    to mind your life.
