John Beswarwick Halcro passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born on November 14, 1931, in Montreal. John is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Millar, and is preceded in death by both his parents, John Henry Halcro and Jeanne Eva Paradis.
John graduated from McGill University in engineering and later earned his MBA at Western University. He taught economics at Montreal’s Vanier College where he took pride & joy in sharing his knowledge and insight. As well, he worked as a much-respected financial advisor.
John had a diverse range of interests and experiences. He was an automobile aficionado, involved in motorsport, serving as a radio correspondent, as a correspondent for the British weekly racing magazine Autosport, and was a managing member of the Formula Atlantic racing team Ecurie Canada and long-time member of the Montreal MG Car Club.
John keenly noticed the world around him, loved nature, was a relentless walker and world traveller, who enjoyed exploring different cultures and landscapes with curiosity and enthusiasm. He often shared his travel experiences in rich informative handwritten letters and was a mentor to a lucky few.
A small gathering of friends celebrated John’s life in his favourite park, Beacon Hill.
John will be remembered for his warmth, irreverent humour and wit, singing talent, and the love of life that he shared with those around him.
