Echo Symmons Dear Steve and Debbie
My heart is truly saddened to hear about Joanie’s passing. She was a wonderful woman, and a friend to everyone she came across. I remember how excited she was when she found out that Samantha had Joan as her middle name. I couldn’t think of anyone that I would hope her to be more like than Joanie. She taught me how to cook – “and don’t ever use toothpicks in your cabbage rolls, I will disown you.” Her whipped shortbread cookies. Always having a pot of coffee on. Those were some of the best years of my life…living on Balmoral with all of you. We were all truly blessed.
Love to all of you

Lucy Macleod (Felter) Dear Steve, Debbie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. “A Mother to Many” and “A Listener to All” so perfectly describes Joanie. I have so many wonderful memories of my days at your house and the love that Joanie showed to all. I am heartbroken that I cannot be there on Monday to be with you, I will be thinking of you all. Love Lucy and Irene Felter
We were planning to be out the door here in Nanaimo at 8 a.m. and on our way down to the memorial. What a shame to see snow was going to make that a major challenge …people had to turn around.
We loved Joan so much. She was my kids’ alltime favorite Auntie. For Dylan, Joan and Steve were the ultimate of loving family with unconditional love. We all felt so at home when we came for a visit and were always blessed with Joan’s many little kindnesses.
Our hearts go out to all of you left behind and especially to Steve and Debbie.
Love, Judy
