Jean Owen (née Vallillee) died peacefully June 9th 2022. She was born on January 18,1927 in Buckingham, Quebec, to mother Yvonne (Regimbald) Vallillee, and father George Vallillee. She was the tenth of twelve siblings, and the last living.
Predeceased by her husband Mike (Morris) Owen (1917-2003), they met while working at the Bank of Commerce in 1949. They were wed and lived in the Montreal area until Mike retired in 1982. She was able to spend many family vacations and holidays with her daughter Barbara McCloskey, Son-in-law Kelly McCloskey (1948-2022), and their children: Michael McCloskey, Owynne (née Laura) Doidge, Angela Faber, and Jessica MacRae. In 1987 Jean and Mike moved to Abbotsford BC, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, before they moved to Victoria B.C. They were married for 54 Years when Mike passed.
Jean was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She will always be known for her “Granny Meals” with her legendary beef roasts and Yorkshire pudding. She was always smiling and ready to chat, with the French-Canadian accent that never quite went away. She was a woman who paid attention to detail, and provided the best she could to everyone she met, and remained close with her family across long distances.
Jean’s final years were spent in the care of Barbara, first in her home, and then via the Sunset Lodge senior care facility in Victoria, blocks away from Barbara’s home and placed right on the beautiful Gorge waterway. Her last days were peaceful, she was able to stay in her room with Barbara by her side holding her hand as she passed.
