Jim passed away peacefully after a 2-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Predeceased just 14 months earlier by his cherished wife of 54 years, Anne. Missed immensely by son, Cameron (Sue); daughter, Jessica; grandchildren, Keaton, Leila, Blake, Bennett; brother-in-law, Tim (Heather) and many, many friends.
Jim was born in Sydney, Australia to John and Mary Williams. In 1961, with a thirst for adventure, he made his way to Vancouver. He traveled further beyond with his mates but Vancouver called him back. In the mid-sixties he would meet his great love, Anne. They enjoyed a large friend group, skiing Whistler and Jim’s revolving door of sports cars. It wasn’t long before a family was started and a move to Vancouver Island took place in 1974.
With a passion and wealth of knowledge on all things cars, Jim would carve out a career in the car industry here in Victoria. Forever rebuilding a car, tinkering with a project or building something for the house, Jim was always figuring something out.
Although having obtained his Canadian citizenship, to anyone who asked, he was proudly Australian.
Jim was the best kind of person; kind, thoughtful, loyal and compassionate. He was an unweathering provider and protector for his family right until the end.
The family would like to thank Lianne Houston and her team at VIHA, the hospice team at Saanich Peninsula as well as the dedicated support of Dr. Gil Chew (Jim’s GP for over 40 years).
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Foundation, Victoria.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Gail White and Dan Hardy Dan and I are saddened by the loss of our friend, Jim Williams. We have know Jim for many years. His calm presence and humour made him easy to be with! In the past few years we had dinner dates with Jim at a local restaurant and we always had lots to talk about. He was smart and well-informed. We know Jim will be missed by his children and grandchildren and his many friends. We are saddened by his passing.

Amy Robertson Jim was one of a kind and I feel lucky to have been the plus one on many occasions through my friendship with Jessica. Jim had a passion for life and a fierce love for his family, he will be deeply missed.
It is with a heavy heart that I write to bid farewell to a friend of 45 years, a friendship that has woven countless memories and shared laughter. Our monthly dinners, where our wives immersed themselves in bridge while we shared stories over a glass of wine, will forever be etched in my heart.
The adventures we embarked on, particularly the trips to Hornby Island, are cherished treasures in the tapestry of our friendship. I can still vividly recall driving up in the motorhome, our camaraderie growing stronger with each passing mile. The evenings spent under the stars, a bit too much wine, and the joy of camping on Hornby Island will forever hold a special place in my memories.
Your absence will leave a void that cannot be filled, old friend. The laughter, the shared moments, and the unspoken understanding that comes with 45 years of friendship are irreplaceable. I will miss our times together, the camaraderie, and the warmth of your company.
May you find peace on the other side, and may your spirit continue to roam the places we once explored together. You will be greatly missed, but your memory will live on in the stories we shared and the bond we forged over the years.
Until we meet again, old friend.
With heartfelt condolences
Kevin
