Irma Ann Johns passed away peacefully on November 16th, 2022 just a few days shy of her 93rd birthday. In the last few months of her life, she enjoyed visits with family and friends under the care of the team at Broadmead Lodge.

Irma is predeceased by her husband Bill, six of her eight siblings, and her parents Luke Murphy and Claira Myrfield. She leaves behind her son Mike Johns (Tracy), daughter Darcie James (Kevin),  grandchildren Eva and Max Johns, Charles and Eleanor Johns, sisters Florence and Della, cousins, nieces, nephews, and others that loved her well.

Irma was known for being kind and compassionate. She was a caregiver in life and remained so by trying to care for other residents at the Veteran’s Memorial Lodge right up until the end. Irma trained as a nurse at Misericordia in Manitoba as a teenager. Her nursing career took her on many adventures.  She worked up North where she met her husband Bill who was in the RCMP. They moved to Brentwood Bay in 1975 where she worked in nursing homes, providing excellent care to her patients. Irma was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren will always remember the special times they spent together baking, playing, and making mischief. Irma had a sweet tooth and always had a container of cookies to share. Irma was a woman of faith and took comfort in her belief that she would be reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Royal Oak Burial Park with a reception to follow at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive.

  • Maureen Murphy

Hello. I am Irmas’ big brother Claudes’ daughter, Maureen Murphy. I have not seen my Aunt Irma in years but will always remember how beautiful and kind she was with all of us. Della and Mark used to visit Dad and me often before COVID. June and Florence also came to spend a few days with us. We visited Claire in Yorkton as well. I have such fond memories of all the times we were together. Dad passed away in April 2020 at the age of 101 years old. I miss him everyday. Your mother was a gem. I’m so sorry for your pain.
    Much love
    Maureen

My mom, Florence, always talks about how cute and giggly and a little shy Irma was in their home growing up. I always pictured her like the little angel, sitting on the floor in their home on the farm; white blonde hair bouncing as she laughed. I’m sure the Murphy clan will all be reunited in heaven too…to sit on fences and watch the horses, and go to dances, and milk the cows. You will be missed Aunt Irma but your kindness lives on in your children and their families ❤️
