WATSON Howard Lee, 1908-2004, “Carry On Regardless”. Howard Lee, born November 3, 1908, passed away peacefully of great age on April 16, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife Laurette (Allen) of Edmonton and three brothers. He was born in Hibbing, Minnesota and traveled to Edmonton in 1912. He attended Alec Taylor School as a youth and later became Circulation Manager of the Edmonton Bulletin. Howard enlisted in the RCAF and gained the rank of Wing Commander. He was made a Member ofthe British Empire in 1947. Following WW 11, he purchased a hardware store in Tofield, Alberta with his brother Edwin which grew into a successful construction business. He retired to Vancouver in 1976 and moved to Victoria in 1993. Howard is survived by his seven children: Ron (Dale), Brenda (Alex) and Margaret Anne (Gary) of Victoria; Keith (Gloria) and Lee (Arlene) of West Vancouver; and Mary Lynne (Stephen) and Allen (Dianne) of Edmonton, Alberta. He was very proud to have knownhis twenty grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Howard is remembered for his smiling blue eyes, a love of ice cream, and his playful humour. He often said: “If I had known that I was going to live this long, I wouldn’t have taken such good care of myself’. We are glad that you did! Dad we will miss your guidance and support; your integrity and wisdom. You have provided an enduring example of what it means to be a respectful and caring citizen of the world. You valued and pursued education, auditing courses at UBC into your 80s. Your children, grandchildren, and great granddaughters inherited this vibrant curiosity and continue to learn and contribute. The family wishes to thank the staff at Broadmead Lodge, most recently the caring staff on Birch Lodge (B2), for their gentle and respectful care of our Dad. A private family celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date. If friends and relatives so wish donations may be made in Howard’s memory to The Lodge at Broadmead Foundation, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, BC V8X 4Y7.
