Grant (Robert) Gillespie was born on September 02, 1931 in Red Willow, Alberta to James Alan Gillespie and Elsie Gillespie (née Eichhorn). He was the oldest of seven siblings, brother to; Gladys, Don (Carol), Wilf and predeceased by Duncan (Melba), Mary (Ron), Jim (Doris). In May 1957 he married Helen Gillespie (née Wold) in Red Deer Alberta. They went on to have six children, Milan (Teri), Murry (Myrna), Craig, Melanie (Paul), Dave, and Darcy (Annemarie). Grant was a proud Grandpa to 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Grant worked as a salesman for Kellogg’s for 35 years. He was committed to contributing to his community through charitable contributions, his lifelong involvement with his Lodge and coaching both Little League Baseball and soccer during his children’s youth. In his retirement he enjoyed morning coffee and Saturday afternoon drinks with friends, long walks along the water, time with his family, curling and the occasional good glass of scotch. He passed away surrounded by loved ones and will be very much missed by his family and friends.
Grant’s family would like to thank the staff of Saanich Peninsula Hospital ECU1 for their kind and thoughtful care. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation.
