God required a great carpenter and called our husband, father, nonno, brother, uncle, cousin, and devoted friend for help.
Gino Caputo passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 9, 2023, at the Palliative Care Unit in Nanaimo, B.C. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Teresa; their two children, Antonio (Dianna) and Rosa (Walter); his seven grandchildren, Scotia, Irene, Elise, Alena, Gino, Stephanie (Spencer), and Michael; and his brother, Emilio (Pauline).
Born on October 17, 1935, in Grimaldi, Italy, Gino immigrated to Canada in 1960. It was here, in the growing town of Prince Rupert, B.C., where he met his second family: Bob (Gwen) Eby, Buck (Ethel) Eby, and their sons, Brian (Liz), Dennis (Cathy), and Gordon (Jeannie). Through time and hard work, he built a reputation of a highly skilled finish carpenter and was asked to join Eby and Sons Construction as a partner.
He enjoyed a successful career which allowed him to pursue other endeavours. He became part of a victorious curling team that won several competitions. Later in life, he discovered golf and was blessed to win three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal at the BC Senior Games.
Gino was a passionate and hardworking father, business partner, and friend. All who knew him were embraced by his immense joy and light. He will be greatly missed.
He goes now to join his sisters Antonia, Ester, Giuseppina, and Maria, and his brother Mike, along with many beloved relatives and friends. They are all waiting for him. His life continues with his memory in those that remain.
The family wishes to thank all of the doctors, nurses, health care aides, volunteers and other incredible care professionals who were a part of this journey. Thank you for your warmth, care, and support – it is appreciated more than can be put into words.
The Funeral Service was conducted by Reverend Al Dudiak in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Friday, March 17 at 2:00 pm, followed by committal at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Liver Foundation, Vancouver, B.C.

Lisa, Dan and Bella Lamarre I have many fond memories of zio Gino: the summer picnics in Terrace, fishing on salt spring island, visits at Christmas and that huge station wagon he had in the seventies with the wood panelling on the sides. Zio Gino rebuilt the outside stairs at mom’s house after dad died, happy to lend a hand..
My condolences to the Caputo family. Gino had a warm and gentle soul. He and Teresa treated me like family during my time in Prince Rupert. Gino and Teresa’s long, loving relationship is an immaculate example for everyone.
