True to his nature, Gervasio, withstood an indomitable battle before passing away on April 10, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife Maria Lurdes, his teenage son Anibal, and his infant daughter Natalia. Survived by his son Luis (Filomena), his daughter Helena (Blair) Watling, and his son Bob (Caroline); his beloved grandchildren Serena (Jay), Adrian (Julia), Nicholas (Hayley), Spencer (Kiera), Lauren, Eden, Ellie; and great-grandchildren Olivia, Owen, Maddox and Emersyn; his sister Maria Vales and her children.
Gervasio was born in São Miguel, Açores on August 13, 1930. After losing his mother at age six and having only three years of school, he worked from a very young age to support his family. As a Master Mason he was revered for his meticulous craftsmanship and strong work ethic. At Thirty-nine years old, he moved his family from the uncertain conditions in the Açores to the promise of a better life for his family in Canada. Only two weeks in this new Country he had a job and joined the Brick-Layer’s Union, purchasing his first home three years later. In subsequent years, as Maria’s health failed, he unwaveringly cared for her until her last days after fifty-six years of marriage.
Along with his devotion to Family and Church, Gervasio was a stalwart in the Portuguese Community with his participation building Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, directing and composing music for the Portuguese band, and teaching the members how to play various instruments.

Rosary to be held 9:30am, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4635 Elk Lake Drive. Funeral succeeding at 10:00am, followed by burial at Royal Oak Burial Park.
