It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom Georgette Marie McBain, August 16, 1938 – July 3, 2022. Georgette was a daughter, sister, wife, mother and great grandmother and will be forever missed. She is predeceased by her husband, James McBain, 1987, and her son, Allen McBain, 2019. She is survived by her daughter Nathalie Chambers, grandson Sage Rogers, granddaughter Lola Chambers, son-in-law David Chambers, her firstborn son John Viola, his daughters Gilana McRae and Kaylia Lauriente and her great-grandchildren, Jordyn McRae and Evelyn Lauriente. Georgette was the youngest of four sisters and is survived by her sister Rosalie Mautes, her nephew Gilbert Cucuat and many other relatives in France. Oma Georgie will be dearly missed.

Georgette loved her home in Sidney by the Sea and felt the happiest with a cup of coffee surrounded by family. Her friends and neighbours cherished her compassionate nature, support for the underdog, and value for inclusivity. Whether scootering around town while proudly displaying a French flag or enjoying a family breakfast at the Roost, Georgette always felt a deep connection between her hometown in Freyming, France, and Sidney.

After living in Sidney for thirty-five years, Georgette bravely broadened her horizons by immersing herself in the larger Victoria community as she adjusted to her new care home. Now closer to her daughter Nathalie and son-in-law David, Georgette was able to spend more time at their farm and often attended parties and Sunday dinners overlooking the sandy slopes and lush greenery. Madrona Farm, or “God’s Country,” as Georgette called it, helped her reconnect with the land in a way the city could not. Her love of the fresh air and sociable personality made her a familiar fixture outside her care home. Radiating with a vibrant spirit and remarkable will to live, Georgette was an inspiration to everyone she met.

We are grateful for the memories we created together and the pictures that will continue to share her stories for our future generations. Thank you to the entire staff at the Summit on Hillside for their exceptional care, and her hero and naturopath, Dr. Rohan. Thank you to her late special friend Grant at the Heights, whom she became inseparable from for years, and Wayne at the Summit, who listened and held her hand while in pain. We will forever appreciate the kindness shown by the nurses, doctors, care workers, front door staff, and all the people who have cared for Georgette over the years.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Sunday, July 31st, 2022, at 10:00 am.
