Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend. Born to Louise and George Wilson in St. Boniface Manitoba. Gayle is predeceased by her sister Georgie. She is survived by sons Todd, Matthew, daughter Janice, brother Sandy and four grandchildren; Jade, Ashley, Mackenzie and Joshua.

Gayle spent most of her life in Victoria and had great memories of walking along Willows beach while holding hands with her dear Grandpa Lyon. She began working as a nurse’s assistant before starting her family at age of 22. She focused her time and energy on her children and their success. She built a thriving daycare to help support the neighbourhood and family friends. Gayle’s house was always welcoming and she was always ready to help who ever needed her. Christmas time was always a jubilant time. There was barely room for a tree and ornaments because the gifts were so plentiful and they were all focused on the needs and wants of her children. As “G-Mo”, Gayle was in her glory. She felt that spoiling her grandchildren was her duty. She shared many stories with them about her Scottish heritage and stories of family, for Gayle this was an important part of her legacy and these stories bared repeating often and on occasion the versions were enhanced as only time could do.

As her kids moved on, she returned to work in a little Patisserie in Oak Bay Village. She loved her time there and the interaction with all who lived in the neighbourhood. In her retirement years, Gayle lived at Ross Place and the The Cridge Centre. She made many new friends and enjoyed her last few years and created many happy memories. As she retired, she did not slow down she refocused her energies on her health, family, friends and fun. She proudly shared with her granddaughter that she was still able to dance on tables in her 70’s. Many of life’s challenges were overcome by her spirit and determination. She trusted easily and loved openly. Her legacy will live on in her children and grandchildren. Her kindness and loving hands will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank all of the care workers that made her last years more comfortable. Dr. Sumi Liebscher’s care was thorough and thoughtful. To the team at the Jubilee Outpatient Clinic, you were all incredible in making the last few years and the last few days for her as comfortable as possible. A memorial service was held at McCall gardens on December 13th, 2020, attended by immediate family and virtually by many family friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cridge Centre for Families in Gayle’s name, would be fondly appreciated.

Gayle is a light that I’ll never forget! I remember her tiny spitfire energy, as I lead fitness classes at Silver Threads Hampton Road for many years, and Gayle was such an inclusive, fun, social woman who brought people together over coffee before or after class, and occasionally, during 😀 !

Gayle also attended music gigs with me at The Spiral Cafe on two or three occasions, usually with another friend with her, even when she lived at Ross Place. She really enjoy the live music and the crowd there!

My husband (Mike) and I were part of a band called The Big Weee, who actually played 3 times at Ross Place, and it was so lovely to chat with Gayle before and after the show. She danced up a storm, with friends, even with her circulatory / heart challenges, she was such a party gal!!

I’m sad to hear she’s gone, but SO HAPPY I got to experience some of the lovely, fun energy that Gayle shared as she lived.

All the best to you all, from Joy Kruger (fitness instructor, musician)
