It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Francis Reed. Born in Victoria on November 1, 1947 and passed at Royal Jubilee Hospital on January 25, 2023.
Predeceased by parents Lawrence and Sadie Reed. Survived by beloved spouse Dianne, girls Yvonne (Robb) Bouchard, Suzanne (Kelly) Parker, grandchildren Ryley, Nicholas and Kai, brother Ed and niece Sara.
Gary was proud to be born in Victoria, and most proud that his picture hung on the wall of his alma mater Claremont School, graduating class of ’65. He enjoyed the reunions with his classmates over the years.
Gary’s first profession was a big rig mechanic however fixing equipment on the cold ground lost its allure. He then trained as an electrician, eventually having his own company Ritter Electric. After retiring the company, he worked with Trilec Electrical, and then Bell Tech, until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed his chosen profession, with whom he worked.
After retiring Gary and Dianne took many trips and cruises, usually with sister and brother-in-law Janet and David Jones, even accompanying them on their honeymoon in Hawaii. Over the past 10 years he immensely enjoyed spending time in Palm Springs. Gary enjoyed the numerous friends made during those various trips.
Gary’s passion was car racing and collectible cars, attending many car shows in his blue ’55 Ford Truck. Once retired Gary attended regular morning coffee gatherings at Franchelli’s, where again he forged many friendships.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Gary’s Life on Saturday, February 4th at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria at 2 pm.
Weather permitting please bring out your collectible car for Gary’s own “Show & Shine”.
A special thanks to all of the extremely caring Doctors and Nurses at Royal Jubilee Hospital, who referred to Gary as their model patient. Also a huge thank you to the many friends and family for their outpouring of love and support during this very difficult past month.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, particularly for a Mitral Valve Instrument, which is not available on Vancouver Island.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
