It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, husband and brother, Fouad Majaess in the early morning of November 1st, 2020 in Victoria, B.C. Born in Bhamdoun Village, Lebanon, Fouad immigrated to Halifax, N.S. in the late 1970’s for a better life and to escape the civil war.
Fouad obtained a B.Sc. (Mathematics) and an M.Sc. (Mathematics and Computer Science) from Dalhousie University and spoke three languages fluently (Arabic, English and French). During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Evangeline, moved to Toronto and then settled with their two daughters (Namat-Maria and Gabriella) in Victoria B.C. in 1993.
Predeceased by his parents Gebrael and Souad Majaess, in-laws Konstantinos and Marouso Paravalos and his brother in-law Nazih Farah. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Evangeline [Namat-Maria and Gabriella (Fiancé Roberto)]; brothers Elias and George, sister Nehmat (Zeina, Jana and Ghina); brother and sister in-law Evangelos and Adriana Paravalos (Katerina, Christian and Natalie); Families of Fred Majaess, Spiro Matta, Halim Matta, Daoud Matta; and the Families of the Late Michael Majaess, Brahim Majaess, Sleiman Majaess, Assaad Majaess, Amin Majaess, Mary Majaess Khairallah, and Samira Matta.
Fouad was known as a very hard working, devoted and generous man, both professionally and personally. Fouad spent 32 years working as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst for Environment Canada in the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis division. Fouad was a loving and caring husband and father, a marriage and relationship with his wife and daughters most dream of. Although a quiet man, Fouad had a gentle smile and kindness that drew people to find comfort in him. Fouad will be missed and was dearly loved by all. His memories will not be forgotten and he will be cherished forever.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ypapanti Greek Orthodox Church in Victoria B.C., however, due to COVID-19 guidelines, this will be a closed service. A livestream will be available for those who would like to attend virtually.

That today’s online tribute and remembrance drew 65 current and former colleagues from across Canada speaks to the incredibly high regard Fouad was held in by all he worked with.

Chris Garrett I first met Fouad in 1983 when he was an undergraduate at Dalhousie University. He spent three ‘work terms’ with me, studying sea level changes in the Mediterranean and on the Labrador coast and participating in the analysis and prediction of iceberg trajectories in the eddies on the continental shelf off Labrador. He was a wonderful colleague, expert and excellent in his work in a quiet and non-assuming way and always ready with a friendly greeting and warm smile. My wife Elizabeth and I were honoured to be invited to his wedding to Evangeline at the Greek Orthodox church on Windsor Street in Halifax and remember the wonderful occasion and the delightful efforts of the two happy and proud sets of parents to communicate!
Fouad then moved to Downsview to join Environment Canada’s climate group, but we were very pleased to reconnect with him and his family when we had all moved to Victoria. We will always remember Fouad’s warmth, kindness and gentleness. He was an example in so many ways. We send our heartfelt condolences to Evangeline, Namat-Maria and Gabriella.

Durant ma carrière chez Environnement Canada et ensuite Services partagés, j’ai eu de nombreuses interactions avec Fouad.
