Father Kim Murray died on July 6, 2024 shortly after admission to Victoria Hospice, following a six-month struggle with congestive heart failure whilst living at home. Born with cerebral palsy, Kim spent his last 4 years wheelchair-bound after one fall too many.
After earning an M. Div. from Trinity College, Toronto, Kim began his church ministry at St. John’s Anglican Church, Edmonton. He married Janet in 1979, and a year later they started the parish of St. Margaret’s, Edmonton, which is still going strong.
Kim completed his Ph.D. in church history from Durham, UK whilst working at St. John’s the Divine, Victoria. Subsequent postings in BC included Parksville and Salt Spring Island. Kim is survived by wife Janet of 44 years, and greyhound Shadow. He will be deeply missed by his many relatives, friends and parishioners.
Taking early retirement in 2008 enabled the Murrays to continue their love of travel, mainly with repeated trips to New Zealand, and to pursue volunteer work. Kim was a great cook and storyteller, usually at the same time. Upon moving back to Victoria in 2016, Kim volunteered on his condo strata council, and became an Honorary Assistant at St. Barnabas Church. Many thanks to Dr. J. Aiken and the Hospice Home Respite Team for all their support.
A Requiem Mass of Kim’s life will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 1525 Begbie St., Victoria, on September 6 at 2p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer Agency: 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria BC V8R 6V5.

Rita Isaac Hello Janet. Glen and I are very sorry to hear about the passing of Father Kim. He was such an inspirational, humorous, devout, and intelligent man. We used to love his sermons at Saint Barnabas, and it was always special to serve with him in the sanctuary! We are so glad that he told us to go to Newgrange in Ireland, as we enjoyed it immensely (it hadn’t been on our original itinerary). Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, including your doggy.

Yvette Bird We have fond memories of food, wine and worship in our time with you both in Edmonton. Kim was our boys first experience of knowing a priest and what a wonderful example he was! To this day you both are part of family stories that get told around the dinner table. Thanks to you both for enriching our lives.
Condolences to his family
