COLEMAN, Ernest Arthur (Ernie) July 30, 1916 November 7, 2007 Ernie was born in Victoria, B.C. and spent his early years in “the stone house on Cook Street” which was built by his father, Arthur Coleman. He attended Quadra School and Victoria High School, where he excelled in woodworking classes. He became a skilled finish carpenter and later worked as an estimator for Farmer Construction until his retirement in 1978. Ernie served as a shipwright with the Canadian Navy during WW II. His greatest enjoyments in life, after his family, were outdoors, either fishing, hunting or playing golf, and the family enjoyed many camping trips together. He was a founding member of the Kiwanis Club of Saanich and served as president of that group. He was always willing to share his time and talents with those in need of help. He greatly enjoyed music, whether listening, dancing or singing and always joined in enthusiastically in musical activities at Luther Court where he lived for the last three years of his life. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Billie in 1983, his brothers Albert and George, his good friend Joan Bunton, and his son-in-law David Johnson. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Lynda Johnson and Maureen (Wally) Laughton; sister Mary White; grandchildren, Laurie (David) Gris, Fraser (Carly) Johnson, Kathleen Laughton (Mark Paterson) and Robert Laughton; greatgranddaughters, Anna and Emily Johnson; sisters-in-law Kathleen Noble and Betty Coleman; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Luther Court and also the Assisted Living caregivers for the loving care that he received there. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Luther Court, 1525 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Luther Court Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.
